Scouting for street children known as TTL scouting, through WSB/APR Ticket to Life Project started in Bangladesh in 2006. TTL scouting was flourished under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Md. Mozammel Haque Khan (the then National Commissioner - Special Events) as the National Coordinator of this Project in Bangladesh. Now Mr. Shafique Alam mehdi (International Commissioner, Bangladesh Scouts) is the National Coordinator of this Project.
The first TTL scout unit was launched in a DIC (Drop in Centre) of an NGO at Karwan Bazar with Shaikh Tofail Hossain (the then AFC) as unit leader.
Street Children in Bangladesh include abandoned, homeless,
separated, orphans, urchins, unaccompanied children etc.
Objectives of TTL Project:
(1) To involve street children in scouting to assist them to grow into good citizens of the country.
(2) To make them aware of Child Rights, thereby enabling them to meet their rights.
(3) To involve in different development activities of national program to be developed as useful and productive work force.
(4) To rehabilitate them through innovative extension of scouting program.
In 2007 another unit was opened at Saidabad. In Nepal workshop, the Progress of these two units was highly praised and National Coordinator Dr. Md.Mozammel Haque Khan committed to open eight more units within 2008. Presently, 11 units are running in Bangladesh- 9 units in Dhaka and other 2 units in Dinajpur and Patuakhali district .
From the very beginning, TTL Scout activities are often visited by high officials of Bangladesh Government. This project also attracts visitors (officials, Scout personnel & foreign delegates and WSB/APR leaders) coming into the country. Through TTL scouting street children learn how to improve their living condition, knowledge, and attitude. They are now equipped with necessary skills to earn their own livelihood and to be integrated into the main stream .
Bangladesh Scouts sent delegates in all APR evaluation and planning Workshops held in India, Nepal, Sri lanka, Philippines, Indonesia and Pakistan. Last seven years total 10 leaders participated in these events.
Each TTL Unit prepares Troop Meeting Plan-52 and Country Plan according to the guideline of APR. Troop Plan and Country Plan are designed to help this most undeserved/ under privileged segment of the society to turn as useful resources. Country Plan consists of special events such as, Investiture ceremony, Scouts Own, Unit Camp, Scout Week,
Observing national important days, Awareness Campaign on Child Rights, Personal Hygiene, STI/HIV//AIDS, Life skill based education, Competition on Art & cultural program, National Scout Jamboree, Education Tour, Tree Plantation, Garbage Cleaning etc.
